While in law school, Perez served as an active member of the rigorous and distinct Nova Law Review.

In 2003, Perez authored an article titled, Wet Foot, Dry Foot, No Foot: The Recurring Controversy Between Cubans, Haitians, and the United States Immigration Policy, 28 Nova L. Rev. 437, 443 (2003). Since publication in 2003, Perez’s article has been cited in various secondary legal sources.

In 2007, during Perez’s tenure, the agency received the Governor's Points of Light Award an award presented to Florida residents and organizations that demonstrate exemplary volunteer service to their community. Subsequently, after serving as CASA’s Head Counsel for a term of two years, Perez founded The Law Offices of Albert J. Perez, P.A.
